1. What is Facial Acupuncture, and how does it improve skin health and appearance?
Facial Acupuncture is a natural, non-invasive cosmetic treatment that involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the face to promote collagen production, improve circulation, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. By stimulating the body's natural healing processes, Facial Acupuncture can help to rejuvenate the skin, support a healthy response to aging, and result in a more youthful, radiant complexion.
2. How does Microneedling work, and what are its benefits for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process stimulates the body's natural wound-healing response, promoting the production of collagen and elastin, which can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation, resulting in firmer, smoother, and more evenly toned skin.
3. Can Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling be used to treat acne and acne scars?
Yes, both Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling can be effective in treating acne and acne scars. Facial Acupuncture helps to balance hormones, reduce local and internal inflammation, and promote circulation, which can help to clear up active acne breakouts, prevent future breakouts, and reduce the appearance of scars. Microneedling can help to break down scar tissue and stimulate the production of new collagen, leading to a smoother, more even skin texture.
4. How many Facial Acupuncture or Microneedling sessions are typically needed to see results?
With Facial Acupuncture, the number of sessions required can vary depending on the individual and their specific skin concerns. Generally, a series of 6-12 weekly or bi-weekly treatments is recommended for optimal results. Many people begin to see improvements in their skin after just a few sessions, with more significant changes becoming apparent over the course of the treatment plan. Microneedling sessions are done with a frequency of one session every 4-5 weeks, to allow the skin ample time to regenerate and receive the benefits of each session. Results are cumulative and are most commonly seen after the third consecutive treatment. For optimal and long-lasting results, it is recommended to receive 3 to 6 consecutive sessions. Thereafter, sessions can be added as needed based on individual skin needs, which can be once every 6 months to once a year.
5. Are there any side effects or downtime associated with Facial Acupuncture or Microneedling?
Both Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling are considered safe and well-tolerated procedures when performed by a trained and licensed medical practitioner. Facial acupuncture has little to no downtime, and most people can return to their normal activities immediately following treatment (while feeling wonderful about their radiant skin). Any possible side effects are generally mild and may include temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the treatment sites. Microneedling can have downtime consisting of 1 to 4 days after treatment and consists of mild reactions such as redness, feeling of dryness, tightness, and slight skin flaking, which is all part of the natural healing process. In your initial consultation for microneedling, your provider will also provide you with pre-care and after-care instructions on how to best take care of your skin for minimal side effects and an optimal healing process.
6. Can Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling be combined with other cosmetic treatments for enhanced results?
Yes, Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling can often be safely combined with other cosmetic treatments, such as LED light therapy, facial massage, or topical skincare products, to enhance results and address multiple skin concerns simultaneously. However, it's essential to consult with a qualified practitioner to determine the best treatment plan for your individual needs and goals.
7. How do Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling compare to other anti-aging treatments like Botox or dermal fillers?
While Botox and dermal fillers can provide more immediate and dramatic results, they are also more invasive and carry a higher risk of side effects. Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling offer a more natural, holistic approach to anti-aging, focusing on stimulating the body's own rejuvenating processes for gradual, long-lasting improvements in skin health and appearance. Many people find that these treatments can be a safe and effective alternative or complement to more invasive cosmetic procedures.
8. What should I expect during a Facial Acupuncture or Microneedling treatment session?
During a Facial Acupuncture session, your practitioner will insert fine, sterile needles into specific points on your face and neck, leaving them in place for 20-30 minutes while you relax. For Microneedling, a device containing fine needles will be moved over your skin, creating tiny punctures to stimulate collagen production. Both procedures are generally well-tolerated, with minimal discomfort. Your practitioner may apply a numbing cream prior to a Microneedling treatment to reduce discomfort. Hydrating and soothing serums and moisturizers are used following treatments.
9. Are Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling treatments typically covered by insurance?
As these procedures are typically considered cosmetic treatments, they are not covered by insurance. However, On Point Acupuncture offers package discounts to make treatments more accessible and accepts all major credit cards, including HSA and FSA.
10. What should I look for when choosing a Facial Acupuncture or Microneedling practitioner to ensure the best results and safety?
When selecting a Facial Acupuncture or Microneedling practitioner, it's essential to choose a qualified, experienced medical professional to ensure the best results and minimize the risk of complications. For Facial Acupuncture and Microneedling, look for a licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac.) who has completed specialized training in facial rejuvenation and Microneedling techniques and has experience treating a variety of skin concerns, such as Awny at On Point Acupuncture.
